Architecture should be the best thing we do. But it’s so disappointing, most of the time.
It wasn’t always this way. It used to be something that we loved, cherished, were in awe of, passed down through generations.
We are no longer in awe. We move every 2-5 years. It’s not a home. It’s an ‘investment.’ It’s an economic game. We don’t really live there. We just want to advance to the next level.
We make things out of sticks and plastic, instead of stones and earth.
We’ve forgotten what’s it’s like to create beauty. Or to live in it.
But we still know it when we see it. We travel to other lands and look at it. Why don’t we wonder: ‘Why did we used to be able to make this, and can no longer?’
Our excuses are planted deep down. They stop us from even asking the question.
